Welcome to the Lancashire BMD web site, part of the UKBMD group of Family History and Genealogy web sites.
The Register Offices in the county of Lancashire, England, hold the original records of births, marriages and deaths back to the start of civil registration in 1837.
The county's Family History Societies are collaborating with the local Registration Services to make the indexes to these records freely searchable via the Internet.
Although the indexes are not yet complete for all years and districts, we hope that the database will eventually cover all Lancashire births, marriages and deaths from 1837.
The menus at the top give access to all the sections of this web site. To visit all the other web sites which are placing original registrars' indexes on-line click on the UKBMD logo below. UKBMD also has a Multi-Region Search feature which can be used to search several BMD sites in one go if you are not sure of the area that your ancestors were from.
If you have any comments or queries regarding this web-site, or wish to contact us, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Please note that the from 1 April 2013 the Wigan and Leigh office is not able to accept payment by cheque or certificate orders by post. Please place orders with their telephone call centre on 01942 705000. Payment may be made using credit or debit cards.
Preston offer online ordering of certificates via a system directly linked into this BMD web site. Other offices within the county also offer online ordering but their systems are not yet linked to LancashireBMD. For these offices you will first need to search for a reference number using this site, then copy the reference number into the appropriate ordering system's forms. Links to these ordering system can be found on the main UKBMD Certificates page.
